Healthy Ageing Research and Technology Club
We are consulting with companies and other potential Research Council funders on developing a proposal for this new club.
The club model establishes a joint fund from industry and the Research Councils. It supports innovative research projects within academia that address generic, pre-competitive research challenges faced by club members. It has proved a very successful mechanism to:
- support research that underpins the needs of industry
- bring together academic and industrial communities with an interest in a specific area
We welcome your company's input during this consultation stage.
Aim
If launched the club will support research projects of industrial importance that enable a better understanding of ageing processes and influences on healthy ageing.
Meetings
We held an initial meeting in April 2009 with companies and academics to identify their interests and seek their support. The meeting report can be found in the downloads section.
We held a second meeting in June 2009, organised by EEDA/ERBI and hosted at the Babraham Institute. The meeting brought together key academics in ageing research and interested companies from the east of England.
We held a third meeting in September 2009, organised and hosted by Newcastle University. The meeting brought together key academics in ageing research and interested companies from the northeast of England.
We held a fourth meeting in January 2010 at the Royal Society of Edinburgh. The meeting brought together key academics in ageing research and interested companies from Scotland.
We held a fifth meeting in November 2010 at Colworth Science Park, Bedford. The meeting brought together key academics in ageing research and interested companies to prioritise the research challenges that had been identified in the regional meetings. The report of this meeting is available below.
The findings of the report, in combination with the evaluation of the Diet and Health Research Industry Club (DRINC) and indications of potential commitment from companies, will form the basis of BBSRC's activities in this area. It is anticipated that a decision will be made late 2011.
