To generate underpinning scientific knowledge that will enhance the livelihoods of the poor by enabling more effective and sustainable management of farmed fish and shellfish through developing healthy, nutritious, and resilient fish and developing an understanding of how these factors interplay with the broader socioeconomic dimensions of aquaculture systems in delivering benefit to poor people.

Key aims

Proposals developed at the sandpit event will be expected to:

  • Focus on or be applicable to aquaculture systems that are part of the livelihoods of poor communities in developing countries, and/or farmed fish species that are consumed by these communities;
  • Contribute to improving food security in partner countries;
  • Be genuinely trilateral in nature, including at least one institution each from the UK, India and low income countries.
