Taiwan-UK International Partnering Awards
This call for applications is closed
Next application deadline: TBC
BBSRC and the National Science Council of Taiwan (NSC) wish to launch the first joint call for Taiwan-UK International Partnering Awards (TWUKIPA). Given the short period of time Je-S can be open for UK applicants to submit their applications; this announcement is being made in advance so that UK-Taiwan consortia can plan and prepare their applications prior to being able to submit forms on Je-S.
Aim
- To set up partnership links between UK and Taiwan laboratories
- To promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists
- To promote access to facilities
- To enhance food security; bioenergy and industrial biotechnology and basic bioscience underpinning health research in the UK and Taiwan
Scope
- Funds can only be used for travel, subsistence and other activities, such as workshops or exchanges. They are not to fund salary costs, consumables, items of equipment or other research costs, nor to link ongoing single collaborative projects
- Partnerships of up to 2 years are co-supported. In each partnering award, BBSRC will fund up to £25k over two years for the UK partners and NSC will fund up to NTD 1,200,000 for the Taiwan partners. Please read the guidelines for eligible costs
- Successful awards should aim to run between April 2013 and March 2015
Assessment criteria
Applications are reviewed internally against the following criteria:
- The value added to BBSRC science through the partnership by enhancing priority areas
- The benefits and future joint research likely to accrue from the collaboration
- The uniqueness of the opportunity and expertise of the Taiwan partners
- The opportunities for young researcher exchanges
- Whether the collaboration is a new linkage or an ongoing partnership (if collaboration is ongoing, what new aspects are brought to the partnership)
- The level of the contribution made by the UK institution towards the development of the award
- Alignment of the award to current BBSRC strategy priorities
Eligibility
- Open to current BBSRC research grant holders and researchers employed at institutes who are in receipt of strategic BBSRC funding
- Consortia of academics may apply, with 1 person acting as the lead
