We are teaming up with the 'I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here' website team, during our BBSRC anniversary year, to deliver a season of six online zones focusing on big data – whilst providing an online event where school students get to meet and interact with scientists.
- The season will introduce young people to some of the scientists, research and issues we face in the new era of bioscience research that involves big data
- A free X-Factor style competition between scientists will begin, where the students are the judges
Question the scientists
Students challenge the scientists over intense, fast-paced online live chats. They then ask the scientists all the questions they want to, and vote for their favourite scientist to win a prize of £500 to communicate their work with the public. If you are a researcher who would like to take part in this season of events please sign up.
The big data season will help students understand what big data and computational biology mean for the future of bioscience research and their own potential biology careers.
- Debate kits will be available to help explore the wider issues that the data collected by science has on society
- The general public will have the chance to question scientists, ethicists and policy-makers about the modern methods of bioscience
