Bacteria – up close and personal
In this image you can see Escherichia coli bacteria coloured green with a fluorescence dye. Most strains of E.coli are harmless and can be found in the human gut. However E.coli is also known for its part to play in food poisoning.
Because E.coli can be grown easily and inexpensively it has been used extensively in various areas of science including genetic modification.
