BBSRC congratulates Wolfson Research Merit Award recipients
20 April 2011
BBSRC wishes to congratulate those scientists from the BBSRC community who received Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Awards this week.
Two of the recipients, Professor Andrew Baker from the University of Glasgow and Professor Guy Rutter from Imperial College London, have received BBSRC funding.
Professor Baker will be researching a novel virus for human gene therapy and Professor Rutter will be working on dissecting the actions of T2D susceptibility genes on insulin secretion.
The Wolfson Research Merit Awards scheme aims to provide universities with additional support to enable them to attract to this country or to retain respected scientists of outstanding achievement and potential.
The awards are funded by the Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The Wolfson Foundation is a grant-making charity established in 1955. Funding is given to support excellence.
