Capturing user requirements for the next national HPC facility, ARCHER
6 March 2012
The government has made a recent capital investment of £158M in e-infrastructure to ensure that scientists and businesses remain at the cutting edge of research and development.
This investment includes funding for the next national high performance computing (HPC) service, ARCHER. Subject to a successful project review, a total of £43M of capital funding is available for ARCHER, whilst the running costs of the facility are anticipated to be met jointly by the EPSRC, NERC and BBSRC.
EPSRC is managing the project to procure ARCHER on behalf of the Research Councils. As part of this process, a consultation has been launched to capture the hardware requirements of current and potential HPC users.
BBSRC strongly encourages bioscience researchers to input their HPC user requirements into the ARCHER consultation.
