Activating Impact finalists shortlisted

Activating Impact finalists shortlisted - 14 February 2014. BBSRC

The finalists of BBSRC's Activating Impact competition have been selected, ahead of the competition final in March 2014.

In total 18 Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) teams from universities and research institutions across the UK entered the competition. Five shortlisted finalists will compete for a £100,000 award to contribute to delivery of innovative KEC practices taking BBSRC-funded research and capabilities toward impact. Two runners up will receive awards of £50,000.

Activating Impact was developed to acknowledge, raise awareness of, and celebrate successful KEC teams or individuals that make an essential contribution to delivering impact from excellent bioscience research and capabilities supported by BBSRC.

Through taking part the teams reflected on best practice and innovative approaches to KEC in the biosciences. The final will take place in London alongside the BBSRC Innovator of the Year Final on 20 March 2014.

Dr Celia Caulcott, BBSRC Executive Director, Innovation and Skills, said: "BBSRC funds exciting world class bioscience research with the potential for economic and social benefit to people in the UK and across the world. However simply conducting the research is often not enough, which is why successful KEC teams can be vital to translating scientific discoveries into real-world impacts.

"Activating Impact is BBSRC's way of giving such teams the recognition they deserve for their excellent work."
