Fund announced for BBSRC-São Paulo research links

21 June 2011

BBSRC Deputy Chief Executive, Steve Visscher, accompanied UK Universities and Science Minister, David Willetts, to a meeting in Brazil to establish new Pump–Priming awards with FAPESP – São Paulo's State Research Council. The UK delegation met with FAPESP Scientific Director, Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz at 1230hrs (BST) today (21 June 2011).

The awards will enable researchers funded by both Council's to collaborate, with awards of up to £35,000 from each Council to their respective scientists.

There is an existing agreement between RCUK and FAPESP that encourages this new scheme.

The FAPESP Pump-Priming Awards are available only to current BBSRC grant holders and their FAPESP funded collaborators. There will be an open call announced shortly with a single application to be made to BBSRC. Awards can last up to 2 years and priority will be given to awards in the areas of Food Security, and Bioenergy and Industrial Biotechnology.

The UK delegation to Brazil continues tomorrow (22 June 2011) and more news from BBSRC will follow.
