Amendment 177

The harmonised maternity, adoptive, maternity support and parental leave policy has been updated to include unpaid time off for ante-natal appointments for partners.

Amendment 176

The harmonised flexible working policy, acceptable use of information and communication technology systems and services policy and maternity, adoption, maternity support (paternity) and parental leave policy have been updated.

There is also a new damage to or loss of personal property policy, which states that the Council will be prepared to consider a claim for compensation from an employee who has suffered damage to, or loss, of their personal property, provided the damage or loss occurs on Research Council premises or whilst on official duty

Amendment 174

Section A7.6: Salary bands and calculations of salary increases has been updated following the uplift of the band minimas which is effective from 1 January 2014.

Amendment 173

Section A6: Promotion opportunities has been updated following the implementation of the Individual Excellence Board (IEB).

The purpose of the IEB is to consider applications for personal promotion to band G and above in science roles across BBSRC. It will run alongside the existing Personal Promotion Board (PPB), which will continue to review the process for applications for promotion up to band F and ratify promotions to band G and above in non-science roles.

Further information about the role and membership of the IEB is detailed in appendix A6.5

Amendment 170

All references to the personal performance development review (PPDR) in the Employment Code have been changed to appraisal and personal development review (APDR). This is to ensure consistency following the implementation of the research council appraisal and personal development review policy, as part of the policy harmonisation (employment code amendment 167).

Amendment 169

Following a review of the Postgraduate research information on the employment code, it has been decided that Section B2 is now obsolete as BBSRC no longer recruits into postgraduate research training roles. It has therefore been deleted.

The Health and Safety team have worked with MRC and NERC to produce a joint security policy, which replaces appendix a9.5.

The supporting appendices a9.5i, a9.5ii and a9.5iii remain unchanged.

Amendment 167

You will be aware that the Research Councils (excluding MRC) will be moving to a harmonised set of non-pay employment terms and conditions from 1 January 2014 and as such the BBSRC Employment Code has been reviewed and updated. The structure of the Code has remained but sections have been deleted where these are now covered by the harmonised policies and links have been inserted instead where these are appropriate.

Please refer to the spreadsheet below, which lists the new harmonised policies and details which parts of the Employment Code have been replaced with these policies or have been converted to HR guidance notes. It also details which parts of the original code remain unchanged.
