Section A6: Promotion opportunities has been updated following the implementation of the Individual Excellence Board (IEB).
The purpose of the IEB is to consider applications for personal promotion to band G and above in science roles across BBSRC. It will run alongside the existing Personal Promotion Board (PPB), which will continue to review the process for applications for promotion up to band F and ratify promotions to band G and above in non-science roles.
Further information about the role and membership of the IEB is detailed in Appendix A6.5
If you are maintaining a hard copy of the code then you will need to print out the following appendices:

All references to the personal performance development review (PPDR) in the Employment Code have been changed to appraisal and personal development review (APDR). This is to ensure consistency following the implementation of the research council appraisal and personal development review policy, as part of the policy harmonisation (employment code amendment 167).
Following a review of the Postgraduate research information on the employment code, it has been decided that Section B2 is now obsolete as BBSRC no longer recruits into postgraduate research training roles. It has therefore been deleted.
If you are maintaining a hard copy of the employment code you will need to disregard Section B2
The Health and Safety team have worked with MRC and NERC to produce a joint security policy, which replaces appendix a9.5.
If you are maintaining a hard copy of the employment code you will need to print out appendix a9.5: Main page
You will be aware that the Research Councils (excluding MRC) will be moving to a harmonised set of non-pay employment terms and conditions from 1 January 2014 and as such the BBSRC Employment Code has been reviewed and updated. The structure of the Code has remained but sections have been deleted where these are now covered by the harmonised policies and links have been inserted instead where these are appropriate.
Please refer to the spreadsheet below, which lists the new harmonised policies and details which parts of the Employment Code have been replaced with these policies or have been converted to HR guidance notes. It also details which parts of the original code remain unchanged.
You may need to download additional plug-ins to open this file.
If you are maintaining a hard copy of the Employment Code you will need to print out the whole Code including the harmonised policies which are in PDF format.
