Next generation sequencing review
February 2011
This review was conducted to:
- examine next generation sequencing technology
- consider its impact on biological sciences
- identifiy bottlenecks that could impact on the adoption of NGS approaches
Our Strategy Advisory Board received the review report in March 2010. The Board supported the review's findings and advised that the recommendations in the report be broadly accepted. They considered the recommendation on tackling the skills gap and boosting capacity to be very important.
Our Tools and Resources Strategy Panel (renamed in February 2012 as the 'Exploiting New Ways of Working Strategy Advisory Panel') received the review report in April 2010 and agreed to oversee the implementation of the recommendations.
Our Bioscience Skills and Careers Strategy Panel considered the report in July 2010.
Since 2010, BBSRC has taken steps to implement the review recommendations. For example, the strategic Tools and Resources Development Fund (£2.5M budget) explicitly encouraged applications to develop new sequencing algorithms.
