Biological sciences are moving towards predictive biology.

Genome sequencing and post-genomic technologies provide researchers with massive amounts of data. As a consequence biology is becoming more quantitative. Large experimental data sets will increasingly allow computer (in silico) simulation of biological systems (e.g. a model of a basic living cell, ‘the e-cell’, could be a reality within the next 10 years).
