India Partnering Awards

Aim

  • To set up partnership links between UK and overseas laboratories
  • To promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists
  • To promote access to facilities

Scope

  • Funds can only be used for travel, subsistence and other activities, such as workshops or exchanges. They are not to fund salary costs, consumables, items of equipment or other research costs, nor to link ongoing single collaborative projects
  • Typically up to £25k over a period of up to 4-years for partnerships with 1 or more Indian life science laboratories
  • Research groups should try and access other sources of funding in addition to the Partnering Award
  • Indian partners may wish to explore mutual funding from the following bodies which have signed formal agreements with BBSRC:
    • Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
    • Department for Biotechnology (DBT)

Assessment criteria

Applications are reviewed internally against the following criteria:

  • The value added to BBSRC science through the partnership by enhancing priority areas
  • The benefits and future joint research likely to accrue from the collaboration
  • The uniqueness of the opportunity and expertise of the Indian partners
  • The opportunities for young researcher exchanges
  • Whether the collaboration is a new linkage or an ongoing partnership (if collaboration is ongoing, what new aspects are brought to the partnership)
  • The level of the contribution made by the UK institution towards the development of the award
  • Alignment of the award to current BBSRC strategy priorities

Eligibility

  • Open to current BBSRC research grant holders and researchers employed at institutes of BBSRC who are in receipt of BBSRC funding
  • Consortia of academics may apply, with 1 person acting as the lead
