Biodiversity meeting

December 2007

Northern Ireland policy makers, scientists, NGOs and other biodiversity stakeholders gathered in Belfast to celebrate the success of the, ’Biodiversity; what on earth is it?’ exhibition and highlight the importance of Biodiversity research both to Northern Ireland and globally.

Introduced by W5 chief executive, Dr Sally Montgomery, the event featured short talks from the Northern Ireland Department of Environment Permanent Secretary, Steven Peover; BBSRC Director, Dr Doug Yarrow; NERC Head of Communication, Judy Parker; and Queen’s University Belfast Head of Biological Sciences, Prof. Ian Montgomery.

In W5 for over six months, the exhibition saw 150 000 visitors. Mr Peover said: "I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from the scientific research work which informs this exhibition”. While Doug Yarrow said, "Biodiversity continues to be an important area of research and one with high public interest. I'm very pleased our exhibition has been so popular here in Northern Ireland."
