Lifelong health meeting

November 2007

BBSRC and the Medical Research Council (MRC) launched a new exhibition, ‘Lifelong health: the bioscience of ageing’, at a parliamentary event on 12 November 2007. "An ageing population presents new challenges for society, which we need to tackle", said Ian Pearson MP, Minister of State for Science and Innovation. He went on to highlight the high Government priority given to ageing research that can help ensure lifelong health.

Accompanying Ian Pearson’s address Lord Sutherland chaired short talks from leading researchers, Professors Linda Partridge, Carol Brayne and Janet Lord, who illustrated examples from their own work demonstrating the progress being made in ageing research. With the back-drop of the exhibition, these talks provided a stimulating atmosphere for policy makers, charities, funders, scientists and others to discuss the role and future of ageing research in the UK.

The 'Lifelong Health: the bioscience of ageing' exhibition features examples of BBSRC and MRC research that can increase quality of life for older people and shows how UK Research Councils are working together in a multidisciplinary approach to ageing research. The exhibition will help increase awareness about ageing research and provide a platform for engaging the public with research we fund.
