Summary

The Agri-Tech Catalyst was set up by Innovate UK, DFID and BBSRC with £70M investment to help make the UK a world leader in agricultural technology, innovation and sustainability.

Scientific objectives

The Agri Tech Catalyst: Innovation funding in developing countries competition aims to increase the pace and scale of uptake of agricultural innovation by farmers in developing countries and to achieve:

  • a sustained reduction of poverty and hunger for smallholder farmers
  • a sustainable intensification in developing country agriculture
  • improvements in human health and diversity in diets and nutrition
  • a positive impact on rural income and food security
  • opportunities for trade in agricultural products

The Agri-Tech Catalyst will not fund equine-related proposals, or proposals relating to forestry or wild-capture fisheries.

The Agri-Tech Catalyst will award grants for early-stage pre-industrial research feasibility studies, industrial research, and late-stage pre-experimental feasibility studies and experimental development.
