Purpose

Scottish executive environment and rural affairs department's (SEERAD) intention was to generate underpinning scientific knowledge that will improve animal health and welfare by enabling the more effective, sustainable management of diseases (with the emphasis on prevention and control rather than treatment), while avoiding or reducing negative environmental impacts and helping to maintain the competitiveness of the UK’s animal production industries.
