Quota studentships

This scheme is now closed and has been replaced by the Doctoral Training Partnerships scheme. Visit the Doctoral Training Partnerships webpage for further details.

This competition awards funding to universities and research organisations for postgraduate research programmes. Awards are made on a competitive basis through an evaluation of the quality of the research training offered by a department or research unit.

Funding is awarded in the form of Doctoral Training Grants (DTGs) to provide institutions with maximum flexibility in the training they support.

Evaluation

The scheme was evaluated in 2010.

Our Bioscience Skills and Careers Strategy Panel considered the evaluation findings and made recommendations about the form and operation of the next Quota round.

Assessment

Proposals are assessed by our Training Awards Committee.

Workshop

We held a DTG workshop in June 2009 to share ideas and good practice regarding:

  • DTG management
  • Provision of core bioscience skills

Attendees, including current quota DTG holders, had the opportunity to discuss our training policy and provide input into BBSRC's thinking.
