New UK plant science community website - www.plantsci.org.uk
10 December 2010
A new central resource for the entire UK plant science community is launched today (10 December 2010). PlantSci ( www.plantsci.org.uk) was developed by GARNet - a BBSRC-sponsored network set up to support Arabidopsis researchers and the wider plant science community. PlantSci is a one-stop shop for news, opportunities, and contacts for collaboration across plant science. The site contains resources relevant to those studying a wide variety of plant species including crops.
Professor Jim Beynon, The University of Warwick believes that "the need to work as part of a collaborative network has never been greater as we can no longer hope to have all expertise in a single organisation. As the community sign up to this resource it will be invaluable tool for building new teams based around complementary skills."
The 'Find a Scientist' feature on PlantSci provides researchers with the opportunity to locate other scientists around the UK with whom they may wish to collaborate. Many researchers have already registered and this database is growing daily.
As well as networking opportunities, the site draws together relevant new information from multiple sources into one convenient portal. This will include research news, latest funding opportunities, upcoming events, recently awarded grants, and information on funding bodies. Current opportunities will also be available as an RSS feed.
PlantSci is free to use and does not require registration.
