Professor Janet Allen, FRSE, BBSRC Director of Research
1 November 2011
It is with regret that I announce Professor Janet Allen's resignation from BBSRC with effect from 31 October 2011.
In her 3 years with BBSRC, Janet had a significant impact as Director of Research and I would like to publicly record my thanks on behalf of BBSRC for all of her work. Her achievements are many covering, as they do, the delivery of every aspect of our Strategic Plan - Basic Bioscience Underpinning Health, Bioenergy and Industrial Biotechnology, Exploiting New Ways of Working and Global Food Security. In all of these areas Janet's contribution was note-worthy. The work in the area of Global Food Security exemplifies her contribution to BBSRC's success. Janet's leadership and personal drive has created a multi partner programme which is already delivering new and exciting work such as the joint work between BBSRC and the United States National Science Foundation, which has the potential to make an important contribution to meeting the challenge of feeding a growing global population. Such partnerships would not have come about without Janet's considerable diplomatic skills and energy.
Internally, Janet also made a major contribution to reforming the delivery of strategic Longer Lasting grants as well as leading the restructuring of BBSRC's strategy panels to better reflect BBSRC's overall strategy.
BBSRC wishes Janet the very best in her future career, taking on new challenges and building on her great successes with BBSRC which have sustained the UK's global leadership in the biosciences.
