In October 2006 Critical I Limited carried out a review of BBSRC Business Plan Competition to track progress of commerical activities of bioscience participants in the 1999, 2001 and 2003 competitions.

The objectives of the evaluation were to:

• Identify the level of commercialisation activity and progress made by participants in the 1999-2000 and 2001-2002 BBSRC Bioscience Business Plan Competitions and by bioscience-focused entrants in the 2003-4 Research Councils’ Business Plan Competition
• Identify respondents’ suggestions first, for further enhancing the value derived by participants from future competitions and secondly, their suggestions as to how the BBSRC might consider further facilitating the commercialisation of the research outputs of its user community

The findings are based on responses provided by eighteen of the participants in those competitions (sixteen from the 1999 and 2001 BBSRC competitions and two from the 2003 Research Councils’ competition).
