BBSRC genomics research evaluation

Summary

A review panel has provided an independent evaluation of two programmes of BBSRC-supported genomics research:

  • The Investigating Gene Function (IGF) initiative
  • Genomics research funded through responsive mode

Objectives

  • To assess the quality of the research supported
  • To identify the major outcomes and impacts arising from the research
  • To assess the extent to which the original objectives of the IGF initiative were met
  • To assess the extent to which the IGF initiative enabled the wider research community to incorporate genomics approaches and technologies into their research programmes
  • To identify ways to build on successes and address identified gaps and issues

Evaluation findings

The panel based their findings on:

  • Results of questionnaire surveys from a sample of:
    • IGF initiative grant holders
    • Responsive mode grant holders
  • Information from BBSRC databases
