Research Committees
Research Committees A-D assess responsive mode funding applications. Each has a core membership that is complemented by additional members for each meeting, who are assigned from our pool of experts once the list of applications for consideration is known. These additional members ensure appropriate expertise to assess all the applications being considered is present at the meeting. The ratio of core to pool members varies. However, core members typically exceed the number of pool members. We value core and pool members equally; the system is not hierarchical and all members have equal rights and responsibilities. We try to balance the number of proposals assigned to each member equally across the Committee. It is difficult to predict the number of proposals that will be assigned to each member, but on average it is between 8 and 15.
Members attend a varying number of meetings each year. Core members typically attend 2-3 meetings. Pool members will attend fewer meetings due to the size of the pool, the diversity of expertise, and the portfolio of applications. We may ask pool members to referee applications for meetings they are not attending. After each meeting we provide a list of members for each Committee.
The Training Awards Committee assess studentship and fellowship applications.
