Amongst the new programmes featured is the £2M Metabolomics consortium, involving Rothamsted Research, UMIST, and the University of Aberystwyth, which will conduct research and training in plant and microbial metabolomics and associated bioinformatics.

BBSRC has also announced its decision to establish up to three Centres for Integrative Biology each year over the next two years. These will receive £15M of initial funding and will integrate disciplines such as biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering and mathematics in world-class research.
