On 9 June 2011 an international consortium of scientists published the genome of the fungus which causes septoria tritici blotch disease of wheat. The researchers hope that the genome sequence will enable them to find chinks in the fungus' defences so they can breed resistant crop plants or improve the use of pesticides.
